The Boston Globe to Print Quincy Patriot Ledger and Brockton Enterprise
Business Wire, July 31, 2007
BOSTON -- The New England Media Group announced today that it has signed a multi-year commercial printing contract with GateHouse Media Inc. to print two of its daily newspapers in the Boston market, The Patriot Ledger of Quincy, MA and The Enterprise of Brockton, MA. It is expected that The Boston Globe will begin printing both papers in the fall of 2007, at the conclusion of GateHouse Media's negotiations with its unions.
The New England Media Group has been expanding its commercial printing business over the past few years. It began printing the New England distribution of the New York Daily News in 2005, and last year added The Boston Metro and the New York Post as customers.
The printing contract with GateHouse Media covers the entire circulation of both The Patriot Ledger and The Enterprise. The Patriot Ledger publishes Monday-Saturday, with a daily circulation of 52,638 and Saturday circulation of 63,095. The Enterprise publishes Sunday-Saturday, with a daily circulation of 31,352 and Sunday circulation of 36,824. Both papers are afternoon papers.
"We are very pleased to welcome GateHouse Media as a commercial printing customer," said Robert F. Burns, senior vice president of production for The Boston Globe. "We continue to optimize our printing capabilities to assure quality production for all our customers, readers and advertisers."
The New England Media Group has three printing plants that house its presses for The Boston Globe, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and the New England editions of The New York Times.
It recently expanded its Millbury plant to handle a variety of publication formats including advertising inserts and niche products, bound and unbound.
Other commercial printing customers include Nantucket Inquirer-Mirror's weekly real estate supplement, Percy's Appliance Store, and The Catholic Free Press. The New England Media Group also prints the TV guides for the Globe and the Telegram.
