Gradient Scientist Wins the Harold Jan Schoemaker Award
Business Wire, July 9, 2007
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Eric J. Wannamaker of Gradient Corporation has won the 2007 Harold Jan Schoemaker Award given by the International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research (IAHR) to the authors of the published paper judged the most outstanding in the two years preceding the IAHR Congress. His winning paper, co-authored with Eric Adams of MIT, was chosen from a field of over 140 submissions and investigates some of the basic practical and environmental concerns associated with the sequestration of carbon dioxide in the deep ocean. Carbon sequestration is key to reducing the greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change and global warming, a topic of increasing public awareness and concern.
The Schoemaker award was established by the IAHR Council in 1980 to recognize efforts made by Professor Schoemaker in guiding the Journal of Hydraulic Research in its formative years. The recipient is chosen by ballot by Council members. IAHR is headquartered in Spain and draws members worldwide.
Mr. Wannamaker is an environmental engineer specializing in the fate and transport of contaminants in groundwater and surface water, with expertise in vapor intrusion, design and operation of groundwater treatment systems, contaminant transport and hydrological modeling, statistical and geostatistical data analyses, and database management. Prior to joining Gradient, he had significant experience in the semiconductor manufacturing industry designing experiments, interpreting scientific data, and monitoring industrial processes. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from MIT where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow.
