The NLS1005 Content Processor Featuring Industry-Standard High-Speed PCI Express[R] Interface is Targeted at High Volume Datacenter and Security Markets

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL), the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors, today announced the availability of the NLS1005 content processor, the newest addition to its NETL7[TM] Layer 7 knowledge-based processor family. The NLS1005 content processor features a high-speed PCI Express[R] interface, and enables deep packet inspection and application signature recognition with 10-Gigabit line rate performance. This provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) the ability to build next-generation application-aware and unified threat management (UTM) security systems for the enterprise, datacenter and service provider markets.

The NLS1005 content processor allows NetLogic Microsystems to expand into new markets and broaden the customer base of its industry-leading NETL7 product family. The high-speed PCI Express interface enables the NLS1005 processor to seamlessly connect to a broad range of processors from Intel Corporation, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Cavium Networks, Raza Microelectronics, Broadcom Corporation, Freescale, P.A. Semi and others. Customers are able to design the high-performance NETL7 processor into a wide variety of systems and products, including servers, datacenter load balancers, security appliances, application switches, routers and intelligent web gateways.

The NLS1005 processor delivers unparalleled performance and functionality for OEMs to accelerate memory bandwidth-intensive deep packet inspection functions at 10-Gigabit speeds. By enabling application awareness at wire speeds in next-generation networks, NetLogic Microsystems' NETL7 knowledge-based processors provide datacenter and network managers with the capability to perform full content inspection on every bit of voice, video and data traversing the network.

"We are pleased to extend our leadership in Layer 7 content processing with the latest member of our NETL7 knowledge-based processor family," said Kelvin Khoo, director of strategic marketing at NetLogic Microsystems. "The new NLS1005 content processor will benefit from the rapid industry proliferation of the high-speed PCI Express technology, and will enable customers to significantly enhance the performance and functionality of a broad base of x86, MIPS, PowerPC and RISC-based systems."

"The need for application aware systems to perform deep-packet inspection is deemed necessary by today's customers," said Aileen Arcilla, senior research analyst at market research firm IDC. "However, since this level of security can consume too much memory and thus degrade network performance, network and datacenter owners are forced to trade-off between performance at line rate versus maximum inspection coverage."

The NLS1005 content processor effectively eliminates the need for this tradeoff by enabling full inspection coverage and network integrity without compromising network performance. The feature-rich NLS1005 content processor features a unique architecture that achieves 10-Gigabit performance while minimizing power consumption and system costs. The NLS1005 content processor is capable of supporting over 256 million simultaneous sessions, and over one million complex regular expressions while sustaining 10-Gigabit performance. In addition, the NLS1005 processor has the flexibility to support multiple simultaneous applications on the same device.

About NetLogic Microsystems

NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL), a fabless semiconductor company headquartered in Mountain View, California, designs, develops and markets high performance knowledge-based processors for a variety of advanced wireline and mobile wireless networking systems, such as routers, switches, wireless infrastructure equipment, network security appliances, network access equipment and networked storage devices. NetLogic Microsystems' knowledge-based processors employ an advanced processor architecture and a large knowledge or signature database containing information on the network, as well as applications and content that run on the network, to make complex decisions about individual packets of information traveling through the network. Knowledge-based processors from NetLogic Microsystems significantly enhance the ability of networking original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), to supply network service providers with systems offering more advanced functionality for the Internet, such as high-definition video delivery over the Internet (IPTV), voice transmission over the Internet (VoIP), unified threat management (UTM), virtual private networks (VPN), rich content delivery over mobile wireless networks, and streaming video and audio.
