BOSTON -- With a large number of baby boomers approaching retirement and an impending workforce shortage, local employers are facing the challenge of diversifying their workforce in order to continue to grow. To address this issue, The Boston Globe and the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts are joining forces to host a Professional Diversity Career Fair at Fenway Park in Boston on Tuesday, June 5, 2007. With more than half of Boston residents identifying themselves as part of a diverse population, this fair is designed to benefit both businesses looking to grow a diverse workforce and area professionals from different races, abilities, ages and walks of life.

The Professional Diversity Career Fair is the perfect vehicle for diverse candidates looking for a new opportunity. The event will bring together the region's top employers who are looking to hire. Companies that will be recruiting include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Bright Horizons, Eastern Bank, Poland Spring, The Boston Red Sox and the University of Massachusetts, among many others. The fair will be open from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

To maximize attendance, The Boston Globe has collaborated with the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, one of the region's leading organizations working toward helping diverse individuals advance in their industries.

"The Urban League is committed to helping diverse individuals attain leadership roles in the region's leading businesses," said Darnell Williams, CEO of the Urban League. "Boston is a multi-cultural city, and we will continue to offer a wide range of resources to help retain diverse individuals in the workplace and community."

"Because of Boston's changing demographics, many of Boston's local businesses and organizations need to diversify their workforce to remain competitive," said Jason Kissell, executive director of classified advertising for The Boston Globe. "Events such as the Professional Diversity Career Fair are essential to the short and long term growth strategies of these companies and to the Boston economy."
