Volantis Appoints Dr Rhys Lewis as Chief Technology Officer

GUILDFORD, England -- Volantis, the world's leading supplier of Intelligent Content Adaptation[TM] solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced the appointment of Dr Rhys Lewis as Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Lewis previously served as Chief Scientist, responsible for Volantis' standards activities and intellectual property development. He has been instrumental in the development of the core technologies that are the basis for the company's products and solutions.
Earlier this year, Dr. Lewis was elected to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Technical Architecture Group (TAG). He served as chair of the Device Independence Working Group (DIWG) for some three years, overseeing the development of the draft Device Independent Authoring Language (DIAL) specification. Dr. Lewis is also Volantis' representative on the W3C Advisory Committee. He helped found the W3C Mobile Web Initiative and represents Volantis on its steering council. He is also active in the Open Mobile Alliance and the OpenAjax Alliance.

Prior to joining Volantis, Dr. Lewis was a Senior Software Architect at Candle Corporation, working on their transactional messaging middleware products. Earlier, he worked for IBM designing and implementing various elements of the Websphere[R] MQ transactional messaging product line. His IBM career also included periods in consulting and services, scientific research, application development and systems programming.
Dr. Lewis holds a Ph.D. degree from Kings College London and a first class honors degree from the University of Leeds. He has written a number of textbooks on message queuing and image processing.
