Town of Cary, NC Chooses SAS for First in the State Technology Project to Help Enhance Quality of Life
Business Wire, June 15, 2007
Performance Enhancement System to Improve Public Safety, Development Services, and Increase Operational Efficiencies
CARY, N.C. -- The Town of Cary, NC and SAS, the leader in business intelligence, will partner in a joint project to provide Cary with an enterprise wide performance enhancement system. A first in the state, the system is designed to help the Town maintain its high quality of life by improving resource allocation and operational efficiencies throughout Town government, beginning with the areas of public safety and development services.
Cary's performance enhancement system will use SAS([R]) Enterprise Business Intelligence, SAS Data Integration and SAS Enterprise Miner to compile and organize data in a data warehouse, apply advanced analytics to make predictions and provide Town leaders with better information about areas important to the Town and its citizens.
As part of the initiative, Cary will focus on public safety and development services, and develop predictive modeling based on historical data. Using the data, the Town expects to improve customer service through better allocation of current and future resources. Cary will be able to run operations more efficiently by anticipating staffing needs, increasing employee productivity, reducing decision-making time and giving employees at all levels access to the data they need to do their jobs better.
"We're pleased to be the first municipality in North Carolina to work with SAS on such a forward-focused project," said Town Manager Bill Coleman. "Through this partnership, we will be able to look toward the future like never before by examining data in ways that allow us to better anticipate and more proactively address the changes in and needs of our community."
According to Tim Vickers, Director of SAS State and Local Government Practice, Cary's widespread use of business intelligence and analytics to address quality-of-life issues puts it on the cutting edge of what local governments can do with technology. "We are proud to work with the Town of Cary, NC, as its leaders take pride in serving its citizens and being a technology leader that other localities can look to as a model of excellence," said Vickers. "What the Town is doing with technology, specifically applying analytics to optimize performance and demonstrate results, is an innovative approach for local government. As a Cary-based company, SAS is pleased to be a part of their efforts as we believe in applying our experience and technology expertise to make a difference in our communities."
The Cary Town Council approved the database warehousing and predictive modeling software project at their June 14 Town Council meeting. As approved, the Town would pay for the $1,330,870 project over a period of four years beginning in July, 2008, plus annual maintenance costs of $300,422. The project pricing includes approximately $1.7 million in savings from SAS, including an enterprise Town wide software license for an unlimited number of users, and development, testing and production without any additional software fees.
