MagiNet Interactive Chooses TANDBERG Television to Deploy Advanced IPTV Hotel Network
Business Wire, June 19, 2007
Creating Ultimate Viewer Experience with Next-Generation Hotel Entertainment System
SINGAPORE -- TANDBERG Television (TAT.OL), part of the Ericsson Group, today announced that MagiNet Interactive (S) Pte Ltd., the largest provider of in-room on-demand TV and internet connectivity throughout Asia, has selected the award-winning iPlex IPTV video processing system for the roll-out of a next-generation hotel entertainment network. MagiNet Interactive is set to launch a new IPTV system that will offer guests with an enriched, interactive TV viewing experience and provide the premium hotels it serves with new revenue opportunities.
MagiNet Interactive plans to mirror the feature-rich digital TV experience that consumers have access to at home with services such as on-demand and catch-up TV. In much the same way that the mini-bar transformed the provision of drinks and snacks in the hotel trade, MagiNet Interactive plans to upgrade in-room entertainment by providing hotel guests with a broader range of choices, ease of use and personalized treatment. To achieve all these, MagiNet Interactive has partnered with TANDBERG Television as the company brings the required professional video experience and the technology to deliver exciting advances in entertainment, such as HD, on-demand programming, interactivity and electronic program guides.
"We plan to provide a viewing experience that goes hand-in-hand with the quality of the hotels that we service. Guests will be able to access an in-room digital TV offering of the quality they are becoming used to at home with advanced features such as on-demand and high definition content," says Allan Smith, VP operations and global business development of MagiNet Interactive. "We chose to work with TANDBERG Television on this important project because the company has a strong reputation in the IPTV world and has market leading technology that we can rely on to provide our customers with new revenue generating services."
MagiNet Interactive is deploying a number of TANDBERG iPlex video processing platforms, for use within the IPTV head-end, and TT1222 professional receivers, for satellite downlink. The TANDBERG iPlex video processing platform is known for its industry leading density, flexibility and upgradeability, qualities that will provide Maginet Interactive with superior performance. The often limited space for technical equipment in most hotels will not be a concern because a key benefit of the TANDBERG iPlex is its high density - it can incorporate up to 8 MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC encoders or 16 ASI input ports in a one RU chassis. Moreover, the iPlex has great flexibility with its multi-functional offering of HD and SD encoding for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC; transcoding MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 AVC; transrating; ASI in and out; routing; multiplexing and remultiplexing.
"We are excited to be involved in this innovative implementation of IPTV in the hotel market. The best-in-class performance and flexibility of our solutions will greatly assist MagiNet Interactive in the roll-out of its service and will ensure the company can build on its market lead in the hotel entertainment sector," says Graham Cradock, executive VP and general manager of TANDBERG Television APAC.
