SmoothWall Expands the Science of Web Security
Business Wire, June 26, 2007
Major New Version of Corporate Guardian Features Enterprise Reporting, IWF Child-Pornography Blocklists and More to Protect Networks from Today's Perils
ATLANTA -- Released at the Nation Education Computing Conference (NECC) in Atlanta, Corporate Guardian 6 is the latest addition to SmoothWall's family of web content filtering products. Equally at home in both corporate and education environments, Corporate Guardian is a true multi-function web security system that analyzes, controls, monitors and protects.
Protecting against the perils of the web is now a much more sophisticated science with less advanced filters looking increasingly inadequate. Content-based filtering remains the key Corporate Guardian differentiator - a technology pioneered by SmoothWall. Corporate Guardian's Dynamic Content Analysis engine examines every user requested web page for objectionable content, embedded viruses, malware and browser exploits.
Schools and enterprises want more than just great filtering, they want information - and this is where the new version really excels. Corporate Guardian 6 provides IT managers with the advanced reporting tools they need to understand their web usage, monitor web activity and identify users attempting to violate their Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). New features include the ability to consolidate data from multiple Guardian systems for enterprise-wide reporting and the ability to create, store and automatically schedule customized reports in PDF, HTML and Excel formats. 'Drill down' mechanisms have also been radically refined and administrators can now investigate web activity instantaneously using AJAX-based real-time logs and traffic graphs.
Corporate Guardian 6 is the first SmoothWall product to incorporate daily blocklist content from the Internet Watch Foundation, an internationally-respected body that works in partnership with police and governments to combat child pornography and other illegal Internet content.
Given its name, some people might be surprised at the popularity of Corporate Guardian in US schools. CEO George Lungley explains, "There is a clear need for more sophisticated content filtering and reporting in US schools. As an advanced filter, Corporate Guardian is an ideal solution that offers dynamic content analysis at an affordable price."
With web-related threats on the increase, it is becoming increasingly important for organizations to strengthen their web defenses. As well as protecting themselves from the risks of idle employees, illegal activities and internal data leaks; organizations also need to protect their networks from web borne viruses and malicious software, and their users from criminal content. Corporate Guardian's intelligent protection allows managers to take control of web usage without breaking the budget.
