Supplies Data-at-Rest Encryption Solutions While Delivering Savings to Federal, State and Local Agencies Under the SmartBUY Program
CARY, N.C. -- Autonomic Resources, a progressive source of IT solutions for government and commercial customers, today announced it was awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) to protect sensitive, unclassified data residing on government laptops, mobile computing devices and removable storage media devices. Through the SmartBUY enterprise software program, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded Autonomic Resources one of ten data-at-rest encryption contracts with a five-year duration and the potential to result in contract values exceeding $79 million.
With the current IT environment of highly mobile data and the evolution of increasingly smaller devices, protecting data at rest has emerged as a mission-critical function for government agencies. Devices such as laptops, USB flash drives and PDAs with stored personally identifiable information and sensitive government information can pose a large threat if compromised. Autonomic Resources is partnering with SPYRUS, Inc., an innovator in portable high-security hardware and software products, to offer the SPYRUS Talisman/DS([R]) Data Security Suite of comprehensive data-at-rest encryption solutions for PC hard drives, external drives, portable drives and removable media such as CDs and DVDs.
"We are pleased to partner with Autonomic Resources in offering the only hardware and software solution for government agencies in this significant effort to strengthen data security," stated Tom Dickens, Chief Operating Officer, SPYRUS. "Our team offers a comprehensive understanding of the security-in-depth encryption requirements of data at rest to protect sensitive and personal data."
Launched by the OMB in 2003, SmartBUY is a federal government initiative to support enterprise-level software management through the aggregate government-wide buying of commercial software. Leveraging the government's purchasing power, SmartBUY presents an effort to achieve bulk savings, standardization and improved configuration management and IT security across all government agencies. Under the first ever SmartBUY BPA for data-at-rest encryption, Autonomic Resources will provide standard encryption products to federal, state and local agencies along with the DoD and NATO.
"The SmartBUY program allows Autonomic Resources to offer the best value to government agencies, serving as an especially important software acquisition vehicle on the state and local level by providing agencies with an easier and less expensive way to protect data," stated John Keese, president of Autonomic Resources. "This BPA will enable all federal, state and local agencies to improve their information security while conserving funds for other equally critical IT needs, all while assisting agencies in meeting important socio-economic goals."
Talisman/DS delivers a combination of high-strength hardware file encryption and efficient software disk encryption products, and its Hydra PC[TM] Enterprise Edition is the only hardware-based USB encryption device approved under the data-at-rest program. Components of the Talisman/DS suite also support Suite B, a set of advanced, unclassified cryptographic algorithms approved by the National Security Agency (NSA) to protect U.S. government classified and unclassified data. The NSA endorsed Suite B in 2005 to provide industry with a common set of cryptographic algorithms that can be used to create products that meet the widest range of U.S. government needs.
