Internap Takes Web Video Delivery to a New Level with Silverlight-Based Media Experiences
ATLANTA -- Internap Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ:INAP), a global provider of fast, reliable end-to-end Internet business solutions, today announced adoption of Microsoft Silverlight to enable a new level of connected media experiences for its customers. In tandem with the global expansion of Internap's content delivery network (CDN), the integration of Silverlight, a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of Web-based media and applications, will greatly enhance Internap's robust suite of Internet services.
Internap enables customers to stream audio and video online effectively and reliably, for on-demand access as well as live events of any size. In addition, Internap's suite of end-to-end IP services, with advanced online media solutions, allows for the delivery of in-stream video ads to monetize online content. Internap also provides sophisticated reporting tools, enabling customers to see where demand is coming from and helping them best manage and service their audiences for Webcasts.
"Internap is transforming the way media and entertainment companies deliver and monetize their online content. As a premier provider of advanced rich-media delivery, remaining on the cutting edge of technology is our mantra," said James P. DeBlasio, president and chief executive officer of Internap. "Integrating Silverlight and its next generation Web media capabilities enables us to continue driving innovation and helps take Internap to the next level."
Internap's network architecture delivers broadcast-quality online content to large global audiences regardless of location, size or device. Its advanced reporting and in-stream ad solutions enable any event - live or archived - to turn online audio and video into revenue streams. The Silverlight enhancement to Internap's CDN will allow Internap to enhance its industry leading capabilities, reliability and reach, which will broaden its customer base and build momentum in the market.
Silverlight includes support for the Windows Media platform and the SMPTE VC-1 video standard, enabling immediate compatibility with millions of hours of content already available on the Internet. Silverlight also takes Web video experiences beyond traditional streaming scenarios by adding rich interactive capabilities and the ability to scale from full-screen high-definition (HD) video to mobile scenarios.
"By integrating Silverlight into their innovative product set and current Windows Media infrastructure, Internap will gain significant media enhancements without costly overhauls to existing infrastructure," said Sean Alexander, director, Microsoft Silverlight. "Silverlight will deliver unparalleled scalability for the delivery of video online, translating into a lower total cost to operate while setting the stage for entirely new Web media experiences."
