Almost One Year After UIGEA Bans US-Based Online Poker, NLOP[TM] Comes Out on Top

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The National League of Poker (NLOP[TM]), the leading Free poker site for US-compliant poker game-play on the web, announced today it will make its national debut at the Gaming Life Expo at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, July 5th through 8th, during the World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event. NLOP is the only online poker play site that has been allowed to have a presence at the Expo - a stark contrast to last year's event - where over a dozen online poker sites, including Party Poker and Poker Stars, had significant presence.

This industry paradigm shift can be attributed to the October 2006 passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). This law is aimed to cut off the flow of funds to offshore gambling sites. The act virtually put a stop to almost all offshore poker sites, some who had built huge market capitalizations on foreign market exchanges. Since the UIGEA, most casino and poker sites have shuttered their US operations, leaving an estimated 75+ million poker-playing Americans - 30 million of which played at online poker sites - with a huge void.
