Business Wire, June 4, 2007

Eschelbeck to Discuss Evolution of Spyware, Current Threat Landscape and Best Protection Practices

BOULDER, Colo. -- Webroot Software, Inc., a leading provider of security software for consumer, enterprise and SME markets, today announced that its CTO and senior vice president of engineering, Gerhard Eschelbeck, will be presenting "The State of Spyware" today, June 4, at the Ninth Annual International Techno Security Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Eschelbeck is widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on vulnerabilities, malware and network security and has presented his research to the U.S. Congress and at numerous major security conferences, including Black Hat and CSI.

What: According to a recent Webroot[R] State of Internet Security report, 43 percent of companies surveyed globally have suffered a business disruption due to malware, yet many still do not have an adequate security plan. This session will provide the industry's most up-to-date research on the global state of spyware, as well as offer global insight into the changing and increasing attack trends - from automated worms to adware, Trojans and system monitors. The session will explain how spyware writers take advantage of security flaws and will offer best practices for how organizations around the world can avoid becoming a victim.

Who: Webroot CTO and SVP of engineering Gerhard Eschelbeck is responsible for developing and driving the company's overall product strategy. He also manages Webroot's development and threat research teams, and further expands the capabilities of Webroot's Phileas, the industry's first and only automated spyware research system.

Named one of InfoWorld's 25 Most Influential CTO's in 2003 and 2004, Eschelbeck is a frequent contributor to the SANS Top 20 expert consensus identifying the most critical security vulnerabilities. Eschelbeck is also a highly regarded author, perhaps best known for publishing the "Laws of Vulnerabilities." He is one of the inventors of the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) and holds numerous patents in the field of managed network security.

When: Monday, June 4, at 11 a.m. PST.

Where: Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes, Tides meeting room, 8400 Costa Verde Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
