Copyright Clearance Center Announces Enhancements to Rightsphere

Business Wire, June 4, 2007

DANVERS, Mass. -- Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), the world's largest provider of copyright licensing solutions, today announced several enhancements to Rightsphere, the company's innovative rights advisory and management service. The new capabilities will be highlighted at CCC's exhibit (booth no. 705) at this year's annual conference of the Special Libraries Association (SLA), June 3-6 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

The service enhancements are designed to improve implementation and use of Rightsphere for CCC's corporate customers. Rightsphere was launched at last year's SLA conference and has been adopted by Boeing, Eli Lilly, Novartis and AstraZeneca.

A set of new web services capabilities now makes it easier for customers and third parties to display rights information within other content workflow applications.

For example, it is now easier to integrate Rightsphere into popular collaboration applications, such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft SharePoint, in which users frequently share published content and need to know quickly if they have permission to do so. In addition, Rightsphere can now be integrated into customer-developed applications, such as document ordering or content management tools. The result: Rightsphere can be integrated into a broad variety of corporate content workflows, offering greater configurability and flexibility.

Rightsphere now also more quickly identifies content a user is viewing on screen. In addition to looking the publication name and ISSN number, Rightsphere analyzes other information in the content metadata, enabling it to deliver rights information to content users even faster.

CCC also has created a set of tools that automates more of the process of importing customers' title information for the content they own into the Rightsphere database, easing and simplifying rights management.

"We're delighted with the market reception Rightsphere has received and we've worked closely with our customers to enhance the product so it addresses their most important needs," said Bill Burger, Vice President, Marketing, CCC. "Rightsphere has quickly proven its value by delivering on its promise to facilitate content sharing and collaboration while helping companies respect copyright and their licensing terms."
