Mark W. Johnson Joins U.S. Naval Institute Board

Chairman and Co-Founder of Innosight, LLC brings Additional Business Development Experience and Leadership to USNI
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The U.S. Naval Institute (USNI), the professional association of the Sea Services, today announced that Mark W. Johnson, the Chairman of Innosight, LLC, will join the Board of Directors. Mr. Johnson joins a diverse group of accomplished executives and leaders from all avenues of society in service to USNI. The USNI Board of Directors guides the Institute in its mission to preserve and promote Naval Heritage and to foster critical dialogue about the future of national security.
Mark co-founded Innosight, an innovation-based consulting and executive training firm focused on helping companies and institutions innovate for new growth and transformation. His partner in this effort is Clayton M. Christensen, Harvard Business School professor and best selling author on innovation. Mark has led numerous consulting engagements within Fortune 500 companies in a broad range of industries, including U.S. defense contractors and government labs, commercial enterprise IT companies, and led a large-scale innovation management project for the government of Singapore.
Mark is a much requested authority and speaker on innovation and business model change and has been a featured speaker at innovation specific conferences such as Fortune's Innovation Forum and several other conferences in the defense, automotive, healthcare, financial services, and venture capital industries.

Prior to co-founding Innosight, Mark was Vice President at the GilderGroup, a high technology consulting and publishing firm. Before joining the GilderGroup, Mark was a consultant at Booz | Allen | Hamilton where he worked on a variety of assignments for clients involved in managing innovation and comprehensive change programs. Additionally, Mark worked with Harvard Business School professor David Garvin in developing an approach and tools to help clients improve their strategy development process through learning based methods. Prior to joining Booz | Allen | Hamilton, Mark was a nuclear-trained surface warfare officer in the U.S. Navy. He is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm, where he served on the nuclear guided missile cruiser USS Mississippi as part of the USS Kennedy Carrier Battle Group.
Mark received his MBA with second year honors from the Harvard Business School. He received a Master's degree in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from Columbia University and a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
