ClassifEye's Secure Biometric Solution Joins the Symbian Smartphone Ecosystem
Business Wire, March 20, 2007
JERUSALEM -- ClassifEye, Ltd, a developer of fingerprint recognition and m-commerce solutions, today announced that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support the growing market for Symbian smartphones by extending ClassifEye's solution to the Symbian ecosystem. ClassifEye's unique, software-only, technology leverages the on-board camera for secure authentication and non-repudiation necessary for mobile commerce and other customer verification challenges. ClassifEye's software eliminates the necessity for costly biometric hardware integration and is downloadable to existing camera smartphones.
Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS[TM], the market leading operating system for smartphones. Symbian OS is licensed by the world's leading mobile phone manufacturers and to date, over 110 million Symbian smartphones have shipped worldwide to over 250 major network operators.
Smartphones represent the fastest growing segment within mobile, growing at 46.6% compared to mobile at 21% year on year growth Q305 to Q306 reported analyst firm IDC. With IDC's forecast of cumulative global shipments of smartphones due to pass the one billion mark by 2011, Symbian OS represents one of the biggest commercial opportunities in mobile.
"In today's large and rapidly growing market, ClassifEye will significantly contribute to the value of current advanced mobile phones and the smartphones of the future, said Rami Cohen, CEO of ClassifEye. "The open standards core of Symbian OS allows us to deliver highly secure, software-only fingerprint recognition solutions to Symbian smartphones today, while being able to easily incorporate it in the smartphones of tomorrow - across a myriad of different manufacturers and geographies".
ClassifEye's biometric solution is a highly compelling answer to the challenges of securing mobile commerce transactions and ClassifEye will be working on with Symbian to develop and market a security infrastructure that aims to drive up ARPU for mobile carriers, cut time to market of new services and applications, and provide consumers with reliable security and identity management.
"Fingerprint recognition plays an important role in enabling smartphones to be used in many different ways," said Craig Heath, Senior Product Manager, Symbian. "Making secure mobile payments, and accessing corporate networks or personal bank accounts from smartphones are becoming increasingly popular around the world, and ClassifEye's innovative, biometric developments have contributed significantly to this. The addition of ClassifEye to the Symbian Platinum Program underscores our joint vision that strong authentication technology will help lead to the future success of smartphones."
