Veraz Launches Softclient and Web Portal Connect for Accessing IP Multimedia Services
Business Wire, March 27, 2007
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Veraz Networks, Inc., a leading global provider of IP softswitch and media gateway solutions, today announced the availability of both a new multimedia softclient and a web portal application.
The softclient, called Veraz Virtu[TM], is an IMS-compliant user application that enables end users to access services including voice, instant messaging, prepaid calling card and video telephony. The web portal application is a service management tool that enables both softclient users and traditional subscribers to configure and manage account features such as user profiles, prepaid access, call forwarding, and presence information. The web portal application also lets users access a web-based telephony service, called Portal Connect[TM], that establishes phone-to-phone connections through the Internet.
Virtu and the web portal both work in conjunction with Veraz's ControlSwitch User Services Core[TM] (USC). The portal can be used as a stand alone graphical user interface or can be integrated into a service provider's own web interface.
Service providers can speed access to IP-based services by making Virtu available for download to new and existing users as an alternative or in addition to the traditional communications devices. Operators can utilize the web portal application, provided as part of the ControlSwitch-USC, to reduce integration overhead during initial deployments. Operators can also incorporate the portal service functions, such as Portal Connect, into their existing user portal.
"Providing greater flexibility for the ways in which services are deployed, managed and accessed is a fundamental benefit of the Veraz architecture, both Virtu and the portal extend that benefit to service providers and their customers alike," said Doug Sabella, CEO of Veraz. "Virtu not only allows service providers to leverage the ubiquity of computers and web-enabled mobile devices when deploying new services, but also empowers consumers to get more out of their devices as well."
Virtu provides access to various ControlSwitch service bundles ranging from basic phone functionality, including caller ID, speed dial, and address book, to more advanced business applications such as VPN groups. Virtu also supports premium functionality including presence based services, video telephony, picture caller ID and multi-party conferencing.
Virtu supports a wide range of operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Windows Mobile, Mac OS X and is compatible for use with desktops, laptops, mobile devices, WLAN-PDA, USB phones and USB headsets. The softclient offers an assortment of standard skins or can be customized and branded to meet specific provider needs.
