Markkula Center for Applied Ethics Hosts Conference on Business Ethics in a Global World

Business Wire, March 5, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Two of the world's fastest growing economies -- China and India -- will be the focus of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics' fourth biennial business ethics conference, titled "Business Ethics in a Global World: China, India, and Beyond." The conference, which will be March 8 through 10, will explore the cultural, economic, and social factors that form the ethical business practices in China and India and the challenges that face global business organizations.

"By bringing together scholars and people from the business world who are actually confronting these issues on the ground in the States and abroad, we hope that we can examine the challenges of creating an ethical culture across national, cultural, social, and economic boundaries," said Kirk Hanson, executive director of the Markkula Center of the Applied Ethics. "The idea is not just to look at doing business ethically in countries with lack of transparency or human rights abuses, but to see what Western organizations can learn from the business practices and values of China, India, and beyond."
