Metacafe Joins Joost, Bebo, Slide and Other Web 2.0 Innovators in Annual List of Startups That Stand out From the Crowd
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Metacafe, one of the world's largest video sites, today announced it has been named to Business 2.0 Magazine's Next Net 25. The Next Net 25 picks out the top technology companies that are best positioned to succeed in 2007. Last year's winners include Digg, Technorati and YouTube, among others. Metacafe was the only video entertainment destination selected for this year's list.
"Metacafe has built a tremendous reputation among viewers and producers as the best place to watch and distribute video content on the Web," said Metacafe CEO Erick Hachenburg. "We are pleased that Business 2.0 highlighted Metacafe as a company to watch in 2007, and we will continue to focus on partnering with producers to find the best video content on the Web."
Business 2.0 selected leaders in five categories that embody the spirit of the Next Net: social media, video, mobile, online advertising, and enterprise applications. Metacafe was highlighted for offering a large global audience, significant rewards for producers and a community panel to ensure the best videos get noticed. Any good video can rise to the Metacafe front page where it can be seen by the 18 million viewers who visit Metacafe every month. (comScore, January 2007).
As a result, producers of engaging content are turning to Metacafe as the best site to earn money for their work. Through Metacafe's Producer Rewards program, launched in October 2006, video creators can earn $5 for every 1,000 views of their work on Metacafe. To date, Producer Rewards videos have been seen more than 50 million times. The top 18 creators have earned more than $5,000 each, and four creators have taken home more than $20,000 apiece.
The Metacafe profile appears in Business 2.0's March 2007 issue and at http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/biz2/0702/ gallery.nextnet.biz2/8.html. (Due to its length, this URL may need to be copied/pasted into your Internet browser's address field. Remove the extra space if one exists.)
