Jeffrey Pugh Joins Open Source Database Vendor as VP of Engineering
CUPERTINO, Calif. -- MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, today announced the appointment of industry visionary Tim O'Reilly to its corporate board of directors. The company also announced that Dr. Jeffrey Pugh has joined its senior management team as vice president of engineering.
"The platforms powering the Web today are the enterprise infrastructure of tomorrow," said Tim O'Reilly. "What we learn from those platforms is the enormous power of open source, open standards, and user involvement ... and one more thing -- that the future belongs to data. Every killer app on the Internet is a database application. And that makes MySQL the 'Intel Inside' of the next-generation of computer applications."
Marten Mickos, CEO of MySQL AB, said, "Tim is one of the world's leading experts on Web 2.0 and the architecture of participation. Jeffrey has a unique combination of understanding database technology and global management. In their respective roles, they'll both greatly benefit our company and the overall MySQL community."
"MySQL has an exciting opportunity to change the landscape of the database software business -- to make things easier and better for all different types of users," said Jeffrey Pugh, MySQL AB's vice president of Engineering. "I am looking forward to leveraging our talented globally-distributed development organization and the open-source community to deliver the best online database for modern applications."

On the O'Reilly Radar blog (http://radar.oreilly.com), Tim and the Radar team watch the "alpha geeks" and report on emerging technology trends. O'Reilly Media has been a chronicle and catalyst of cutting-edge development since 1978, spreading the knowledge of innovators through its books, online services, magazines, and conferences.
Tim is one of the computer industry's leading book publishers. O'Reilly Media also publishes online through the O'Reilly Network and hosts conferences on technology topics, including the O'Reilly Open Source Convention, the O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference, the Web 2.0 Conference and the MySQL Conference & Expo. Tim's blog (http://radar.oreilly.com) "watches the alpha geeks" to determine emerging technology trends, and serves as a platform for advocacy about issues of importance to the technical community.
