IPTV World Forum Judging Panel Confirms Best-in-Class Position for TANDBERG iPlex UltraCompression HD and SD IPTV head-end

SOUTHAMPTON, England -- TANDBERG Television's (OSE:TAT) IPTV market leadership was once again confirmed as the company received the award for Best IPTV head-end & video processing technology at IPTV World Forum in London. At the awards ceremony yesterday evening, TANDBERG's latest telco solution, the iPlex UltraCompression HD and SD IPTV head-end, was chosen by a prestigious group of judges.

Based on TANDBERG Television's world-first, second-generation AVC platform - Intelligent Compression Engine (ICE3) - the new iPlex UltraCompression video processing system brings a step change in IPTV digital video distribution. It combines the broadest choice of density and enhanced features with the industry's leading picture quality performance. The new system delivers bandwidth improvements of up to 50% over previously deployed MPEG-4 AVC units.

"I am extremely proud that the IPTV World Forum has chosen to recognize the hard work and innovation of our video compression development team and the industry leading performance of our new iPlex UltraCompression solution. This innovative new product is a complete integration of TANDBERG Television's best-in-class encoding with the iPlex's advanced density and IPTV feature set. It builds on our industry leading position in the global IPTV market and further extends our ability to provide telcos with the technology and expertise on which to base their next generation television services," says Eric Cooney, President and CEO of TANDBERG Television.

The iPlex is a flexible video processing platform, rather than just being an encoder chassis. It offers the industry's most complete IPTV head-end solution and includes MPEG-2 SD encoding, MPEG-4 AVC HD and SD encoding, MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 AVC transcoding, MPEG-2 transrating, and picture-in-picture (PIP) service generation. With a high density, NEBS-certified, telco-designed chassis, the iPlex delivers new bandwidth benchmarks thanks to a number of innovative features. These include improved motion estimation processes, single slice video processing architecture, dedicated processing for low resolution encoding of PIP services, and a number of performance boosting features such as Multi-Pass analysis and enhanced video pre-processing, which are the basis of 12 new patent applications.

The launch of the iPlex with ICE3 based technology continues TANDBERG Television's market leading momentum in the MPEG-4 AVC and IPTV arenas. TANDBERG Television is the recognized leader in video compression with a focus on providing its customers with flexibility, choice and best-in-class performance across multiple formats. The company is the only player to offer complete solutions for HD and SD MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and VC-1. With over 4,000 MPEG-4 AVC HD and SD encoders commercially deployed, TANDBERG Television is the leader in global IPTV with over 180 deployments around the world.
