SIA University Research Awards Recognize Academics for Outstanding Contributions to Semiconductor Research

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) today announced the recipients of its 2007 University Researcher Awards, Professor Paul S. Ho of the University of Texas in Austin and Professor Andrew R. Neureuther of the University of California at Berkeley.

"Research to advance the frontiers of science is critical to maintaining U.S. leadership in innovation," said SIA President George Scalise. "SIA is pleased to recognize two individuals for their lifetime contributions to advancing semiconductor technology.

Professor Paul S. Ho holds the Cockrell Family Regents Chair in Materials Science and Engineering and is director of the Laboratory for Interconnect and Packaging at the University of Texas in Austin. He has been involved in research programs sponsored by the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) for 13 years and has made groundbreaking contributions to interconnect reliability technology. He is currently leading research efforts in the area of materials, processing, and reliability for interconnect and packaging for microelectronics.

Professor Andrew R. Neureuther holds the position of Conexant Systems Distinguished Professor at the University of California at Berkeley. He has pioneered the modeling and simulation of integrated circuit processes and has made countless contributions to semiconductor technology in more than 20 years of work with SRC.

"For more than 60 years, leadership in science and technology and the resulting innovations across a broad range of industries have been critical to driving our nation's economic growth, improving the productivity and earnings of American workers, enhancing our standard of living, and ensuring our national security," Scalise continued. "The vast bulk of the basic research that drives our industry is done by university researchers. We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Professor Ho, Professor Neureuther, and their associates whose lifetime contributions have benefited our entire nation," Scalise concluded.
