GlobalOptions Group Executive James Lee Witt to Testify at House Small Business Committee in Washington Today
Business Wire, March 8, 2007
NEW YORK -- GlobalOptions Group, Inc. (OTCBB: GOPG), a leading provider of domestic and international risk management services, today announced that James Lee Witt, Former Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and CEO and Chairman of GlobalOptions' James Lee Witt Associates unit, a public safety and crisis management consulting firm, will testify at a hearing of the House Small Business Committee on behalf of the Small Business Administration in Washington on Thursday, March 8, 2007. Draft testimony is available at www.wittassociates.com.
The Hearing on Disaster Relief and Access to Capital Legislation will focus on the SBA's disaster readiness and planning processes as well as a proposed bill regarding the SBA Disaster Assistance Program, which is chaired by Congressman Nydia M. Velazquez.
During his tenure as Director of FEMA under the Clinton Administration, Mr. Witt saw firsthand how communities benefited from the SBA and its disaster loan assistance programs, and in a number of instances he was able to work with the SBA to streamline disaster recovery process and provide better service to citizens who are victim to disaster.
Mr. Witt will share his blueprint for reinvention of disaster-related agencies, to help the SBA better serve disaster victims.
"Congresswoman Velazquez and the committee should be applauded for their vigorous efforts to ensure that the Small Business Administration is prepared to help citizens in the worst of times, such as during a disaster," said James Lee Witt. "The ability to build bipartisan cooperation in Congress and between the Executive and Legislative branches was key to the reinvention of FEMA during my time as Director, and I hope to provide some insight to Congress during my testimony," said Witt.
Mr. Witt won international acclaim for his role in transforming FEMA and coordinating the federal response to more than 350 disasters during his tenure as director from 1993 through 2000. He is also the former chief executive of the International Code Council, an association dedicated to building safety. Today, he serves as CEO and Chairman of James Lee Witt Associates, a unit of GlobalOptions Group, Inc.
