Business Wire, March 8, 2007
Free Service Pack Eases Transition to new Microsoft OS; New Pricing Invites Windows Vista Users to Try WordPerfect Office
OTTAWA -- Corel Corporation (NASDAQ:CREL; TSX:CRE) today announced the availability of a free service pack that provides Works With Windows Vista[TM] certification for Corel[R] WordPerfect[R] Office X3. Available now from www.corel.com/vista, this new service pack updates all current English-language versions of WordPerfect Office X3 to deliver optimal feature performance and the enhanced look and feel of Microsoft's latest operating system. WordPerfect Office X3 - Service Pack 2 (SP2) is available for both 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and localized versions of the update are planned for release in spring 2007.
"PC users and manufacturers expect their software to work seamlessly when they move to a new operating system and Corel has moved rapidly to ensure WordPerfect Office does just that," said Richard Carriere, General Manager of Office Productivity at Corel. "With today's update Corel is positioning WordPerfect Office X3 as the only alternative to Microsoft Office 2007 to be optimized for Windows Vista. Whether customers are looking for a better office suite value or simply confused by Microsoft's new "Ribbon" UI and seeking a more familiar user experience, WordPerfect Office has been updated to meet their needs."
Corel Updates Pricing Policy, Invites Microsoft Vista Users to Try WordPerfect Office
In conjunction with the release of WordPerfect Office X3 - Service Pack 2, Corel also announced today that it has updated its competitor pricing policy to allow Microsoft Office 2007 users to purchase WordPerfect Office X3 for the upgrade price of $159.99US/$199.99 CAN.
With Corel's flexible pricing policy, it is easy and inexpensive for Microsoft Office users to add the advanced formatting capabilities of WordPerfect Office X3 to their productivity software mix, or to equip a second or third household or small business PC with a low cost, full-featured office suite.
"It can be very expensive for a multi-PC home or small business to upgrade all of their software for a new OS," said Carriere. "Priced at up to 60% less than Microsoft Office 2007, WordPerfect Office X3 already offers high performance features such as RealTime Preview, Context-Sensitive Toolbars and UI customization which are just now being introduced into Office 2007. In addition, WordPerfect Office X3 users benefit from capabilities such as PDF Import and Reveal Codes which are unique to Corel's office suite."
