Charleston Area Convention Center Deploys Xirrus Wi-Fi Network
Business Wire, May 15, 2007
High Density Exhibit Halls and Meeting Areas Now Equipped for High Performance Wireless Access
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- Xirrus, Inc., the only provider of high performance, long range Wi-Fi products, announced today that the Charleston Area Convention Center has deployed Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays to cover its high density exhibit halls and meeting room areas, locations that typically attract hundreds of simultaneous Wi-Fi users. Vendors and attendees of events held at the Convention Center, as well as the production staff supporting music events held at the location, now have a reliable, high performing Wi-Fi network.
The Charleston Area Convention Center turned to Xirrus from its previous Wi-Fi solution provider in order to increase the number of users within the exhibit hall and meeting room areas and to provide enough bandwidth and coverage to ensure a reliable Wi-Fi network.
"We needed a solution that could support the large number of users that typically attend events at the convention center," said Artie Ortiz, telecommunications supervisor at Charleston Area Convention Center, North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center. "The solution also needed to be upgradeable to 802.11n to protect our infrastructure investment. Xirrus' Wi-Fi Array met our requirements by providing a platform capable of being upgraded to 802.11n as well as delivering the capacity and coverage needed for our application."
The exhibit hall and meeting room areas of the Charleston Area Convention Center encompass over 200,000 square feet of area and host a wide variety of events. The Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays were able to deliver the most bandwidth and coverage per cable drop delivering a high performing Wi-Fi network.
"Xirrus is quickly becoming recognized as the Wi-Fi solution of choice for convention centers with recent deployments at the Javits Convention Center in New York and our upcoming deployment for Interop Las Vegas being held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center," said Paul Kersse, regional sales director at Xirrus. The Wi-Fi Array delivers the needed throughput and coverage for convention centers, hotels and other locations that need to support large numbers of users without forcing customers to install a 'sea' of low value, commodity access points and high priced controllers."
