LipidLabs Finalizes Terms to Acquire Telemedicus, Inc. from Texas A&M
Business Wire, May 15, 2007
HOUSTON -- LipidLabs, Inc. [Pink Sheets: LPDL] announced today that it has reached a final agreement to acquire Telemedicus, Inc. and will close the acquisition within thirty days. Telemedicus was formed in partnership with Texas A&M University and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Telemedicus has developed the DREAMS technology, an advanced on-board communications and data system, for emergency vehicles and portable military installations. LipidLabs will commercialize this exciting new life-saving technology and market it to commercial users nationwide.
The Telemedicus system includes advanced computer-based communications, medical monitoring and global positioning equipment for emergency vehicles. Through high-quality video, doctors in hospital emergency rooms can see and direct the first responders' treatment of the patient in real-time. This technology improves trauma victims' probability of survival, especially in rural areas or battlefields that are beyond the physical reach of medical specialists in trauma centers.
The Telemedicus technology has been tested in field operations since 2003 in Houston and in Liberty County, Texas. Many lives have already been saved using this technology. It can be used to treat trauma casualties anywhere conventional advanced emergency medical treatment is unavailable - in military operations, offshore drilling operations and in rural communities. Trauma victims will be able to receive a doctor's attention within a few minutes of an ambulance arriving at the scene.
"Acquiring Telemedicus will expand our business. By combining our strengths in the marketplace with the great research developments of Texas A&M and the University of Texas we can expect long term revenue growth and strong profits," stated LipidLabs' President Thomas Cloud. "We are excited about this product and plan to get into thousands of ambulances and emergency locations as fast as possible," he concluded. Potential customers include ambulance companies such as Emergency Medical Services (NYSE: EMS), Rural/Metro Corporation (Nasdaq: RURL) and Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPAR).
