Unique Auto-flip Feature in New Axis Pan/Tilt/Zoom Network Camera Allows 360 Degree Panning Surveillance

Business Wire, May 21, 2007

CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- Axis Communications announced the launch of the AXIS 215 PTZ Network Camera, the first Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera that is shaped like a dome camera and provides full 360 degree panning with the use of a new and unique Auto-flip feature. The highly compact AXIS 215 PTZ is perfect for the indoor surveillance in retail stores, reception areas, schools, offices and other places that require both overview and zoom functionality.

"Small pan, tilt and zoom network cameras are in high demand because they can be controlled remotely without using extra cables," said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications. "The camera is ideal in surveillance situations where the user can benefit from changing the field of view like following a potential shoplifter or redirecting the camera to preset positions whenever there is an alarm."

AXIS 215 PTZ features automatic day and night functionality, 12x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom and autofocusing. Simultaneous MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG video streams at resolutions up to 4CIF allow for optimized quality and bandwidth usage. Pre- and post-alarm image buffering, video motion detection, as well as scheduled and triggered event functionality with alarm notification together create an effective solution for indoor monitoring. Two-way audio support enables remote users to not only view but listen in on an area and communicate orders or requests to visitors or intruders thereby increasing the monitoring options. AXIS 215 PTZ supports audio alarms, making it possible to detect noise from intruders even in the dark. In addition, the comprehensive set of network security features includes multi-level password protection, IP address filtering and HTTPS encryption.

All PTZ cameras have a mechanical stop that prevents the camera from panning the full 360 degrees, which would break the cables between the camera and the main board. If the camera were mounted in the middle of the ceiling, the mechanical stop would also make it impossible to follow a person walking behind the camera because they would be in the camera's blind spot. However, the new, unique Auto-flip feature reverses the pan direction whenever the camera reaches the mechanical stop at 180 degrees - and does so quickly, in about 1 second - eliminating blind spots and making it a suitable mounting for the center of the ceiling.

The AXIS 215 PTZ comes complete with all indoor mounting accessories while a separate housing is available for outdoor use. The product is supported by the industry's largest base of application software through the Axis Application Development Partner program as well as the AXIS Camera Station video management software. The AXIS 215 PTZ will be available for $999 through Axis distribution channels in June 2007.
