Will Be Honored at 12(th) Annual Luncheon in October
SAN FRANCISCO -- Noted venture capitalist Ann Winblad has been named the 2007 Financial Woman of the Year by the Financial Women's Association (FWA) in San Francisco. Winblad, who heads the venture capital firm of Hummer Winblad, will be officially honored at FWA's 12th annual awards luncheon, which will be held on October 4, 2007 at the Westin St. Francis Hotel.
"Ann is not only a respected and successful venture capitalist, she is also a leading technology entrepreneur and admired mentor who embodies the best qualifies of a leader in both the business and community service worlds," said Michelle Alberda, FWA president.
Since 1995, FWA has acknowledged and celebrated the contributions of women to the Bay Area financial services industry through this annual award, and the awards luncheon is always sold out. Money from the luncheon is used for the FWA scholarship fund, which provides college scholarships of $5,000 to $10,000 to Bay Area undergraduate and graduate women studying in the areas of finance or financial services. Hummer Winblad, which was the first venture capital firm to invest exclusively in software companies, now manages more than $1 billion in cumulative capital and has launched more than 100 new software companies since its founding in 1989.
