Financial Services Industry, Internet Security and Law Enforcement Join Forces to Fight Electronic Crime
Business Wire, May 3, 2007
LOS ALTOS, Calif. -- The Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) announced today that the financial services industry, Internet security companies and law enforcement have joined forces to co-host the first Counter eCrime Operations Summit (CeCOS) in San Francisco, California, May 30-31, 2007.
This Electronic Crime Summit is co-hosted by the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), the American Bankers Association (ABA) and the Financial Services Technology Consortium (FSTC). Summit partners include the Organization of American States' Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism (CICTE), the UK's Association for Payment Clearing Services (APACS), the FBI's Infragard group and the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS/ISAC).
Attendance at the Counter-eCrime Operations Summit is open to financial services companies, ISPs, Internet security professionals, law enforcement agents and legal professionals. The Summit is being held on May 30 and 31 at the State Bar of California building in San Francisco, California. Agenda items include:
- The Take-Down Tall Tale Battle Royale. Security operations professionals will relate their own tales of derring-do in pursuit of cyber-criminals and the corrupt technologies they plant on the Internet.
- Colloquy on 'State of the Art' eCrime Technologies. Industrial and university researchers investigate the most destructive crimeware mutations and how they be leveraged to an operations professional's advantage - and more.
- Taming the Toxic Desktop. eBay's own CISO presents eBay's action plan to managing pandemic desktop pollution - the crimeware and malware that clutters most every PC today and which has to be neutralized to keep ecommerce safe and secure.
- LA eCrime Story: Take Down in Azusa. Two FBI Special Agents tell the story behind the story about the take down of phisher Jeff Goodin - who now faces a sentence of up to 101 years.
- The Black Art of Mapping Criminal Actors to eCrime Events. A ShadowServer Foundation researcher discusses his work to map phishers and ecrime groups to events, taking an important step in making pictures out of the haze of ecrime pixels.
- APWG Policy Round Table: Domain Name Registration. APWG's Domain Name System Policy Working Group (DNSPWG) reports on its investigation into how domain registration policies that assist phishers and ecriminals could be tuned and augmented to frustrate the abuses of DNS registration that are now routine parts of phishing attacks.
Parties interested in proposing presentations, Round Tables of colloquia can send them to: proposals@antiphishing.org. Parties interested in sponsoring some part of the event can contact Deputy Secretary General Foy Shiver at fshiver@antiphishing.org.
The two day event has a staggered fee structure with a conference charge of $125 for members of the APWG, ABA and FSTC and $175 for non-members. The conference notes page is here:
