Former CMS Advisor Stanley Nachimson Headlines Melamedia Seminar on Upcoming HIPAA Security Rules

Business Wire, May 3, 2007

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The onslaught of data breaches reported in the media has intensified interest in regulating healthcare to ensure the confidentiality of patient data.

Healthcare organizations also are under growing pressure to improve security as federal and state governments are funding initiatives to create health information exchanges and electronic health records.

HHS is putting healthcare on notice that if it wants to enjoy the benefits of information technology, it must address the new and evolving security issues posed by advances in technology now.

The department issued guidance on remote computing security and now is revising its HIPAA security regulation to address these challenges.
