Global Cleantech Spending Set for 14% Growth in 2007; Asia Ahead of U.S

Industry leaders to discuss findings from Lux Research's The Cleantech Report on June 15th

NEW YORK -- Spending on the development of new energy and environmental technologies ("cleantech") is projected to grow by 14% in 2007 to exceed $55 billion worldwide, with corporate and government spending up 10% and venture capital on track to double. Leadership in these technologies increasingly lies not in the U.S., but in Asian countries like Japan, China, and South Korea, according to findings from The Cleantech Report - the world's first comprehensive reference study on energy and environmental technologies, recently released by Lux Research.

"Government funding for clean technologies has barely grown faster than inflation for the past two years, but initiatives announced in 2006 indicate a 10% increase for 2007. And corporations like General Electric, BASF, and Toshiba are making R&D investments to maintain rapid revenue growth in sustainable products and services," said Lux Research President Matthew M. Nordan. "Unlike previous technology waves in information technology and biotech, however, the U.S. is not leading the world. The Asia/Pacific region takes first place in government funding, corporate R&D spending, and scientific publications while the U.S. only leads in deployment of venture capital and in patents issued."

The Cleantech Report, a component of Lux Research's energy and environment service, is now available in two volumes and more than 600 pages delivering:

* Comprehensive analyses of key clean technologies, spanning energy, air, water, waste, and sustainability

* Rich data on market sizes, government funding, corporate R&D, venture capital, IPOs, M&A activity, start-up creation, patents, scientific publications, media coverage, and more

* Detailed profiles of more than 200 start-up, midsized and large companies

On June 15th, Lux Research will host an interactive conference call with a panel of cleantech leaders from government, finance, and industry to discuss the report's findings and other pressing energy and environmental issues. The teleconference will take place from 1:00pm to 2:30pm EDT and will include live Q&A from attendees. Members of the panel will include:

* Alexander Krasner, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, U. S. Department of Energy

* Ira Ehrenpreis, General Partner, Technology Partners (leading cleantech venture capital firm)

* Dr. B.J. Stansbery, CEO, Heliovolt (pioneering thin-film solar technology start-up)
