Yankee Candle "Lights a Candle for Your Heart" and Raises $100,000.00 for the American Heart Association
Business Wire, May 31, 2007
SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. -- The Yankee Candle Company, the country's leading designer, manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer of premium scented candles, today announced a donation of $100,000.00 to the American Heart Association representing all of the company's profits from the sale of its special edition candle, and the Red Dress Gift Tag.
Heart disease is the #1 killer of adult women in the United States claiming a life every minute according to the American Heart Association.
A $1.00 donation was made for each purchase of the specially-designed "Go Red" Yankee Candle. Featuring the ever-popular Macintosh scent, this limited-edition red candle included a special label highlighting the American Heart Association's Go Red movement. Additionally, Yankee Candle made a $1.00 donation for all other purchases of select red candles during Heart Month in February including top-selling scents such as Macintosh, Macintosh & Peach, Juicy Watermelon, Sweet Strawberry, Cranberry Chutney, and Mandarin Cranberry. Yankee Candle customers were also offered a special AHA Red Dress Gift Tag for an additional $1.00 donation.
Rick Ruffolo, Senior Vice President of Brand, Marketing, and Innovation for Yankee Candle, commented, "Yankee Candle is committed to helping address this broad-reaching health concern as it is very relevant to our customers. We expanded our successful 2006 program in 2007 with the goal of raising over $100,000. Each of us can make important lifestyle decisions to improve our heart health such as incorporating regular exercise, eating right, and even relaxing. The positive benefits of taking a moment to light a candle each day to unwind and help release the stresses of the day cannot be overlooked."
Andrew Buroker, American Heart Association's Board Chairman states, "Without the support from respected brands like Yankee Candle, we could not educate and share this lifesaving message with millions of women about heart disease. Together we can encourage women to fight and take action against their No. 1 killer."
