General Physics Corporation Contracts with Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security to Train Regional Hazardous Material Response Teams
Business Wire, May 4, 2007
ELKRIDGE, Md. -- Global performance improvement solutions provider General Physics Corporation (GP), a subsidiary of GP Strategies Corporation (NYSE:GPX), recently contracted with the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security (OKOHS) to provide technical assistance training and services to 11 Regional Hazardous Materials Response teams in various locations throughout the State. The training is being provided through the Domestic Preparedness Equipment Technical Assistance Program (DPETAP), a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sponsored assistance program.
Under the Oklahoma contract, DPETAP instructors/technicians will provide on-site training in the operation, capabilities, limitations, and field maintenance of a standardized suite of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) detection, protection, and decontamination equipment. More than 450 Oklahoma Regional CBRNE Response Team members are expected to participate in the training. OKOHS is using grant monies supplied by DHS to fund the training delivery.
Gary Davis, OKOHS Training & Exercise Coordinator, said of the upcoming training, "This TA (technical assistance) training will be a valuable asset to the OKOHS regional response system. We have talked to several Oklahoma and other state responder agencies who have received TA from DPETAP that said the TA they received was great."
Ed Caldwell, DPETAP Program Manager for GP, said, "It is a privilege to work with OKOHS to help meet their operational readiness needs. The ability for state and local governments to use grant funds to contract directly with GP gives us a great deal of flexibility to assist them with their all threats/hazards capabilities."
GP staffs and operates DPETAP under contract with the U.S. Army's Pine Bluff Arsenal. DPETAP is the DHS on-staff contracted equipment technical assistance provider for the Department. GP recently won a competitive procurement to continue to staff and operate the program, a role it has held since 1999. DPETAP has been providing CBRNE detection, protection, and decontamination equipment technical assistance services to the nation's emergency responder community for more than seven years, training more than 78,000 responders in 46 states and two territories.
