Company Joins the EPA, Dell and National Recycling Coalition at Washington, D.C. Event to Promote Safe, Secure Disposal of Unwanted Electronics
AUSTIN, Texas -- TechTurn, a trusted leader in technology recovery, refurbishing and resale, announced today that it processed more than 2,000 used electronic devices as part of an Earth Day recycling event sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency and Dell and supported by the National Recycling Coalition. The free computer equipment drop-off event on April 22 in Washington, DC attracted more than 500 consumers who donated nearly 86,000 pounds of old PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, and other electronic devices.

"Participating in the Earth Day event not only reduced the amount of e-waste that pollutes our landfills, but also provides affordable computer equipment for those who need it," said Jake Player, president of TechTurn. "TechTurn believes that re-use is the highest form of recycling, and most of what we collect at events like this is returned to productive use."
TechTurn transported the computer equipment dropped off during the event, which included all brands of desktops, laptops, monitors, printers and other peripheral devices, to its state-of-the-art facility in Richmond, Virginia, where it is being processed for resale or recycling.
During the process, TechTurn thoroughly destroys data on all hard drives to meet the stringent standards enforced by the Department of Defense and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accounting Act standard). The devices are then rigorously tested for possible refurbishment and resale or for breakdown and reuse of working components. Finally, all non-usable devices and components are properly disposed of using recycling processes that meet or exceed environmental standards and adhere to TechTurn's strict no-landfill policy.
"What a fantastic way to celebrate Earth Day with partners Dell, EPA and TechTurn. In the heart of our Nation's Capital, we had an incredibly successful collection event for recycling of computer equipment. We truly appreciate TechTurn's help in collecting, transporting and processing the thousands of pounds of equipment brought in to the event," said Kate Krebs, executive director of the National Recycling Coalition. "The strong turnout is indicative of consumers' desire for responsible and convenient recycling of computers and electronic devices."
