Orbit International Corp. Enters into Two New Strategic Partnering Agreements That Support Remote Control Unit Transponder Programs
Business Wire, Nov 1, 2007
Significant Opportunity for Follow On Production
September 30(TH) Backlog up 31.5%
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. -- Orbit International Corp. (NASDAQ: ORBT), an electronics manufacturer and software solution provider, today announced that its Electronics Group received new prototype awards from two leading prime defense and aerospace contractors for Remote Control Unit ("RCU") program opportunities. Both awards include significant multi-year follow on potential. Although the dollar value of these initial prototype awards is not material, both awards are significant since they include Strategic Partnering Agreements. Both prototype awards provide the customer with cost competitive RCU prices in exchange for sole source commitments which could lead to significant multi-year production and retrofit orders for Orbit through 2015.
Separately, the Company announced that its backlog at September 30, 2007 increased by 31.5% to $16.0 million compared to $12.1 million one year earlier.
Following on Orbit's news release of September 19, 2007, Dennis Sunshine, President and Chief Executive Officer of Orbit International stated, "Now that we have a fully qualified, state-of-the-art, mission-proven RCU, prime contractors may purchase these units from our Company with confidence and with the ability to customize the unit by downloading software developed for unique requirements. We are looking to establish strategic alliances with additional prime contractors that dominate the defense electronics landscape for U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and U.S. Navy Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) program opportunities. If successful, we could significantly increase our presence in both the domestic and international IFF marketplace."
Sunshine added, "Since that September announcement our Company has successfully demonstrated the unique capabilities of the RCU, which ultimately led to these new awards. The timing and size of these Strategic Partnering Agreements significantly exceeded our expectations with respect to potential production quantities throughout the multi-year program life cycle. Prior to these agreements, both prime contractors provided their own RCUs for IFF program requirements. It is clear that as both prime contractors conducted a make/buy analysis, they saw the benefits of our proven RCU capabilities as well as our cost competitive unit prices for continued production requirements."
Sunshine continued, "Once these RCU prototypes move to the production cycle, customer delivery requirements commence in 2008 and accelerate with significant follow on program requirements expected through 2015."
