Coors Donates $20,000 for Scholarships

GOLDEN, Colo. -- Coors Brewing Company will provide a total of $20,000 in scholarships to Grambling State University and Southern University as part of its sponsorship of the State Farm Bayou Classic on Nov. 24 in New Orleans.

The highly anticipated event is the largest and oldest of the historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) football classics and has been co-sponsored by Coors for most of its 34-year history.

Each year, the gridiron match-up between the Grambling Tigers and Southern University Jaguars, two well-established Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rivals, attracts more than 70,000 fans from across the nation to the Louisiana Super Dome. Following the historic gridiron battle, Coors will present each school with a check for $10,000 to provide scholarships to deserving students.

"The players on the field are not the only ones making a winning play," Moses Brewer, director of corporate relations for Coors Brewing Company, said. "We have had a long-standing commitment to the Bayou Classic and to the students at both Grambling and Southern University. We're proud to continue our tradition of providing scholarships to support continuing education at these schools," he added.

Kickoff time for the Bayou Classic is 1:00 p.m. CST. This year the game will be televised live on NBC.
