PLATO Learning Makes Idaho Statewide Implementation Reality

All K-12 Public Schools Receive Licenses in Language Arts, Reading, and Math
MINNEAPOLIS -- PLATO Learning, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTR), a leading provider of K-adult computer-based and e-learning solutions, today announced an agreement with the Idaho State Department of Education to continue its annual statewide agreement. Under the agreement, all K-12 public schools in the state receive access to PLATO Learning licenses for curriculum in language arts, reading, and math courses.
For the past three years, the Idaho State Board of Education has used PLATO([R]) instructional solutions as part of its statewide initiative to create a consistent curriculum support system to its school districts. The program -- the Idaho PLATO Learning Network (I-PLN) -- reaches K-12 schools, juvenile corrections and detention facilities, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, adult correctional education facilities, and college of education teacher preparation programs.
"We are excited to continue offering PLATO Learning's quality education services across Idaho," said Tom Luna, superintendent of public instruction for the Idaho State Department of Education. "PLATO Learning programs continue to serve as a great tool for Idaho students in our efforts to help more students meet grade-level requirements."
The Idaho State Department of Education, led by Superintendent Luna, took over the management of the PLATO Learning contract for the 2007-08 school year. The Idaho State Board of Education previously managed the agreement.
"PLATO Learning is an excellent, collaborative partner that has done more than just provide software for our districts," said Saundra DeKlotz, director of federal programs for the State Board of Education. "PLATO([R]) education consultants traveled across the state, district to district, tailoring the curriculum to fit each school's individual needs. Now, every district in our state has a uniquely designed resource that will accelerate student performance."
The partnership between PLATO Learning and the Idaho State Department of Education is a statewide effort to remediate missing skills and improve Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) scores. Implementation spans across many programs, including ISAT test remediation, gifted and talented instruction, credit recovery, alternative graduation credit and high school credit for incarcerated youth.
The agreement grants all school districts open access to PLATO Learning solutions, giving administrators increased accessibility and ease of implementation. In addition, if schools identify a need in related subjects, educators and administrators have the option of adding additional, site-specific content at an extra cost.
"We are pleased to continue our relationship with the Idaho State Department of Education and to see their students continue to improve academically," said Mike Morache, president and CEO for PLATO Learning. "This state of Idaho is passionate about improving student test scores and academic achievement across the board. PLATO Learning is proud to be a partner with the state on their initiative."
