Installation of Pageflex as new engine of uDesignIT! variable data tool to enable a new level of customization for commercial printers
BOSTON -- Pageflex, a division of Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS, www.bitstream.com) and a leading developer of enterprise variable data publishing and web-to-print solutions announced today that WebsitesForPrinters.com has chosen Pageflex as the new engine behind uDesignIT!, the variable data component of a WebsitesForPrinters.com-generated website. uDesignIT! allows customization of a wide range of documents including business cards and targeted marketing materials. To assist current and prospective customers in learning more about how to utilize the newly designed uDesignIT!, WebsitesforPrinters.com will be hosting webinars November 12-19. Prospective participants for upcoming webinars may register at PageflexWebinars.WebsitesForPrinters.com.
Pageflex enabled WebsitesForPrinters.com to incorporate several new enhancements to their sites, including the addition of real-time previews, virtually unlimited typographic control in the variable data document and a number of options for variable images. The implementation of the redesigned uDesignIT! was carried out during the week prior to this year's Graph Expo, September 9-12 in Chicago. WebsitesForPrinters.com's developers were able to integrate the platform seamlessly, aiding the company in being named a "Must See 'Em" for Internet-related products.
"As our customer base expanded to include printers in more than 400 cities, we looked to amplify our variable data technology to support the growing needs of our printer partners," explained Dave Hultin, managing partner of WebsitesForPrinters.com. "After researching the Pageflex solution, it was clear that their platform could enable us to enhance our currently successful product and take it to the next level."
Pageflex provides a flexible, scalable platform to meet the demands of a broad spectrum of variable data projects, regardless of the media used to deliver them. No third-party software dependencies dictate workflow. One application supplies all functionality needed to produce all things variable including direct mail, business cards, signage, packaging and custom books. Campaigns can be extended to include personalized URLs (PURLs), microsites and HTML e-mail.
"Legacy customization systems permit growth and flexibility to a certain point, but as businesses grow, updates become necessary," remarks Anna Chagnon, President and CEO of Bitstream, Inc. "In the case of uDesignIT!, WebsitesForPrinters.com's increasing customer base began to outgrow some of the platform's original functionality. Pageflex enabled the company to take uDesignIT! to the next level, allowing greater typographic control, eliminating font embedding issues and adding the ability to support image files."
About uDesignIT!
uDesignIT! is the variable data component of a WebsitesForPrinters.com-generated website. It is the tool that allows customers of commercial printers to create their own template-based documents (like business cards), and enables elimination of the hassles associated with these repeatable jobs. uDesignIT! has been shown to transform these often profit-draining jobs into profit-building jobs. While uDesignIT! can assist in producing virtually any customizable document, the steps needed to produce business cards using this tool provides a good example of its ease of use:
1. The printer's customer goes to a specialized ordering page which asks for their business card information.
2. As they enter their information the web page shows a live preview of their business card, using the data they provide.
3. The customer reviews the proof and places the order.
The end result: a production-ready PDF of the customer's order already proofed and approved.
About the Pageflex platform
Pageflex offers unparalleled design control with powerful graphic design features created specifically for variable publishing. The platform produces rich, creative, award-winning document designs that look like they were given the individual attention of a graphic designer but were, in reality, created on-the-fly with Pageflex variable publishing technology.
Pageflex has the server support needed to run small and large installations. The queue-based architecture lets customers add new servers quickly. Automatic failover and backup options make sure the customer's system is running all day every day.
