Frost & Sullivan Commends Newtec for its Innovative Sat3Play® System
Business Wire, Nov 22, 2007
LONDON -- The 2007 Frost & Sullivan European Product Innovation Award in the field of satellite broadband very small aperture terminal (VSAT) systems is presented to Newtec. The award is presented to the Belgium-based company in recognition of its Satellite Triple Play (Sat3Play[R]) system that supports two-way satellite broadband communications in a robust, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
"The uniqueness of this system is that it has been developed by combining the strengths of various standards," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Venkat Malleypula. "These include digital video broadcasting-satellite second generation (DVB-S2), DVB-return via satellite (DVB-RCS), SATMODE, and transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP)."
The Sat3Play system consists of an outdoor and an indoor unit. An interactive low-noise block (iLNB), which contains a standard LNB and a low-power cum tiny transmitter, mounted on the antenna, form the outdoor unit while indoor unit connects the end-user devices such as PC to the outdoor unit.
This system is designed to support VoIP telephony as well as to obtain interactive TV and radio broadcasts when used inline with a standard DVB set-top box. Furthermore, the Sat3Play hub facilitates the needed infrastructure to receive and transmit IP data from and to the terminals.
"This system can be used for various applications in both professional and consumer segments," says Mr. Malleypula. "A few applications that can be enabled with the help of Sat3Play are rapid Internet access, virtual private network (VPN), Intranet, video and audio streaming, supervision, control and data acquisitions (SCADA), VoIP telephony, content distribution and management, and point of sales terminals (POS)."
Newtec has focused its R&D activities on integrating the strengths of the SATMODE standard with elements of DVB-RCS to develop a very reliable, efficient, and low-cost technology. The company has, with the Sat3Play[R]) system, designed an affordable two-way satellite multimedia broadband solution that successfully meets the challenges posed by terrestrial broadband or other satellite alternatives.
The Frost & Sullivan Product Innovation Award is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within their industry. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognise companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
