Qwest Delivers High-Speed Internet Services to the Government of the District of Columbia

Fiber-Optic Network Supports District Government Agencies
DENVER -- Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE:Q) has announced a 3-year contract with the Government of the District of Columbia to deliver high-speed Internet services for a fiber-optic telecommunications network supporting District government agencies.
The contract is for Qwest[R] Metro Optical Ethernet (QMOE), a service that will provide a gigabit Ethernet (GigE) connection among District government locations. The service is capable of providing LAN-to-LAN (local area network) connectivity between two or more customer locations and combines the power of Ethernet and optical technologies across metropolitan area networks (MANs) to provide low-cost, scalable, and secure bandwidth. The service can be used for data applications -- such as data-file transfer, Internet access and off-site data storage -- and access to hosting, outsourced mail and file server service, and outsourced application services.
