3DVO Delivers First Low Cost 3D Modeling Solutions to Online Retailers
Business Wire, Nov 27, 2007
Technology Kernel Developed Through USTAR at Utah State University
SALT LAKE CITY -- 3DVO today announced plans to deliver the most cost-effective three dimensional modeling solutions on the market through 3DVO Engage, their pioneering 3D service that delivers true-to-life online product images. 3DVO has spent five years perfecting the technology to deliver high quality 3D models that cost 40 to 60 percent less than other available technologies.
"3DVO has the technology to model and display our complex product features in compelling ways, putting the power to learn more about Black Diamond products in the hands of our customers," said Joshua Dees, CIO of Black Diamond. "We are excited to continue to work with 3DVO as their tools develop so we can communicate our product message in a way that resonates to our customers."
The technology kernel behind 3DVO was first developed in association with the Center for Active Sensing and Imaging at Utah State University through the Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative (USTAR). This technology combines laser distance measurement with digital color imagery for precise distance and color effects. The 3D datasets can be used immediately or stored for later viewing, analysis and manipulation as exact image replicas.
3DVO has refined this technology to make it the fastest, most cost-effective 3D modeling service on the market. Retailers send their products to 3DVO, and the company rapidly returns 3D images that can be manipulated by the consumer during the online purchasing process. For the first time, mass e-retailers can put all of their products online in 3D.
"Traditional retail sales are slowing, but online sales are expected to grow 20 percent to $39 billion this holiday season," said Troy Sheen, CEO of 3DVO. "One way retailers are increasing online sales is by creating a realistic store experience. In the past they could only afford to create 3D models for their flagship products, but with our technology they can create 3D models for every single product - increasing online conversion rates."
The product roadmap for 3DVO Engage includes the development of tools that will further transform highly complex data acquisition, processing and delivery functions to create futuristic real life web experiences for consumers and online retailers. When online retailers take advantage of 3DVO Engage, they will benefit from these future releases.
"The partnership between Utah State University and USTAR has been instrumental in bringing this technology to market, and 3DVO has taken it to the next level," said Ned Weinshenker, Vice President for Strategic Ventures and Economic Development at Utah State University. "This technology offers scalability and cost-effective models that have the potential to change the landscape of online retailing over the next 12 months."
