New Osteoarthritis Special Needs Plan Now Available for Seniors
SAN ANTONIO -- Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced today the availability of an additional Medicare plan in Texas. Beginning on Nov. 15, Medicare beneficiaries with osteoarthritis can enroll in the Humana Choice PPO special needs plan. Available to seniors statewide, this special needs plan offers members routine chiropractic visits, acupuncture and osteoarthritis drug coverage during the coverage gap.
The 2008 expansion, approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, builds upon the already available regional Medicare plans in the state, including a regional Humana Choice PPO and Part D prescription drug plans, and focuses on providing greater choice to meet the changing needs of seniors in the market.
"As people age, many develop osteoarthritis, a chronic condition that impacts both their health status and their lifestyle. We're committed to changing our Medicare product offerings to meet them where they are in their health care experience," said George F. Smith, M.D., regional president of Senior Products for Humana's Southwest region. "We've listened to seniors about what they want and leveraged our experience in health benefits to give them more options that fit their health needs. The addition of this product addressing the special needs of people with osteoarthritis shows our commitment to ensuring all Medicare beneficiaries have access to the right plan for them."
