Spacenet Expands Presence in Government Market With New Customer Deployments and New Contract Vehicle
Business Wire, Nov 8, 2007
MCLEAN, Va. -- Spacenet Inc., a leading provider of high-performance satellite networking solutions, today announced that it has expanded its presence in the government market through contracts with new government customers and the recent award of a five-year GSA Schedule Contract, GS-35F-0569T. Spacenet began increasing its focus on the government market with the creation of Spacenet Government Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Spacenet Inc. Over the past eighteen months the company has stepped up its efforts to meet the demands of federal and civilian agencies and state and local government clients with the launch of new products and services and systems integration capabilities. The new customer contracts and recent GSA schedule award represent the culmination of these efforts.
Spacenet has been providing satellite communications services to a variety of government customers including one of the largest federal civilian organizations, the U.S. Postal Service[R]. Spacenet recently announced that it is working with Verizon Business on a new contract for the USPS, and has deployed satellite communications to over 5,000 locations to support broadband applications. In addition, Spacenet will provide a custom satellite network for fixed and transportable services supporting both carrier class voice and broadband data communications to a large public safety agency. The new network will use the industry's only Cisco certified and integrated satellite solution, the Cisco IP VSAT Network Module(TM), in conjunction with a new Gilat SkyEdge VSAT system, including network operations and management by Spacenet.
The new GSA contract award makes it easier for government clients to purchase Spacenet's high-performance commercial-off-the-shelf satellite products and services, offered under the Connexstar[TM] brand. Spacenet's communications solutions meet the varying operational requirements of government agencies, and services include fixed VSAT networks for mission-critical applications; transportable solutions for rapid deployment and disaster recovery; and continuity of operations planning (COOP) connectivity. In addition, Spacenet offers comprehensive network management services including 24 X 7 customer support, network design and implementation, and program management.
Spacenet CEO Andreas Georghiou said, "Government agencies have increasingly been recognizing the value of satellite communications for a variety of uses including mission-critical network applications and disaster recovery. Spacenet has been revitalizing its offerings to grow within this market. The recent contract awards represent significant achievements as Spacenet Government Services builds momentum. In addition, with the new GSA contract vehicle, government entities benefit from the advantages of Spacenet's high-performance satellite communications and a simplified ordering process."
