GENBAND Taps IDT Network Search Engine for New Compact Media Gateway
Business Wire, Oct 1, 2007
The Advanced Search Capability of the IDT NSE Provides an Essential Building Block for the Transformation of Legacy Infrastructure to Converged Next Generation Networks
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- IDT([TM])(Integrated Device Technology, Inc.)(Nasdaq:IDTI), a leading provider of essential mixed signal semiconductor solutions that enrich the digital media experience, today announced that GENBAND(TM) Inc., has selected an IDT network search engine (NSE) for use in its recently introduced GENBAND G2 Compact Media Gateway. Enabling increased network intelligence at the higher line rates needed to realize the next generation digital media experience across wired and wireless networks, the IDT network search engine and search accelerator products are used by companies, like GENBAND, for high performance packet processing with lowest power consumption per entry searched. These functions are becoming increasingly important to IDT customers because they provide an added level of deliverable services, security, scalability and reliability that are critical in next generation networking solutions.

Featuring packaging that is up to 50 percent smaller than competing solutions, the IDT NSE is the industry's smallest form factor NSE and offers a cost effective solution for the GENBAND G2 product. The IDT search engine uses the industry's most advanced search capability accelerating searches for classification of data packets at line rate. The GENBAND G2 Compact Media Gateway is a network-hardened platform providing packet line and trunking media gateway capabilities for fixed line and cable carriers. The G2 platform allows service providers to migrate to next-generation networks enabling new, revenue-generating multimedia services while maximizing the value of existing legacy infrastructure.
"In addition to the accelerated packet processing benefits we gained by selecting the IDT NSE, the device's small form factor enabled a smaller system footprint, which was extremely important for our G2 product, a compact media gateway," said Jack Brickey, vice president of engineering at GENBAND, Inc. "The IDT network search engine brings the functionality, cost and size benefits that help us provide our customers with next-generation architecture for today's networks."
"We are excited to be a part of the GENBAND G2 product design and to be collaborating with them on future applications," said Dave Cech, director of marketing for the IDT IP co-processor division. "GENBAND came to IDT looking for a solution that could provide high performance packet processing with a small form factor and the lowest power per entry searched. By addressing these requirements, the IDT NSE and the GENBAND G2 platform are extending the capabilities of service providers worldwide to deliver advanced multi-media services. This is just another way IDT is enabling the digital media experience."
About IDT Network Search Engines and Search Accelerators
The family of IDT network search engines with fully integrated LA-1 interface include devices in 128Kx36 through 512Kx36 entry configurations with performance up to 250 million searches per second (MSPS). The family of LA-1 NSEs is supported by a rich feature set, including dynamic database management(TM) resulting in up to 70 percent power savings when compared to alternative solutions, aging for efficient table management, and multi-database lookup (MDL) which allows the user to issue a search in up to eight databases for improved NSE search performance capabilities.
Building on the industry leading IDT network search engine family, the IDT search accelerator assists packet header processing with industry leading performance and service capabilities at wire speed. Enabling next-generation networking equipment to work faster, smarter and more efficiently and manufactured on the TSMC 90 nm process technology, the IDT search accelerators process complex IPv6 policy lookups at 40 Gbps throughput and beyond. With integrated error correction code to improve data integrity and system uptime, the search accelerators accelerate packet header classification and forwarding in core, metro and access networks.
