New McCarter & English Managing Partner Eric Wiechmann to Continue Expansion
Business Wire, Oct 1, 2007
NEWARK, N.J. -- Eric Watt Wiechmann, a partner in the Hartford office of McCarter & English, LLP, became Managing Partner of the 400-lawyer firm today, succeeding Lois M. Van Deusen, who has retired but will continue to serve as Of Counsel. He is the first non-Newark-based managing partner in the firm's history.
"I intend to continue the expansion strategy that has proved so successful in Connecticut and Boston," said Mr. Wiechmann, who came to McCarter & English as part of that expansion in 2003. "In a profession where mergers can be very challenging, Lois Van Deusen engineered three remarkable successes in just a few years. Hopefully, we've learned something about choosing partners and integrating offices that can be carried forward."
Formerly the firm's Deputy Managing Partner, Mr. Wiechmann's legal practice focuses on sophisticated civil litigation, including toxic tort, antitrust and professional liability cases. Among many legal community activities, he serves on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Defense Counsel and was President of its Foundation.
McCarter & English, established more than 160 years ago, represents Fortune 500 and mid-cap companies in their national, regional and local litigation and on important transactions. Its 400 attorneys are based in offices in Boston; Hartford; New York; Newark; Philadelphia; Stamford, CT; and Wilmington, DE.
