Business Wire, Oct 1, 2007
Lucy Fato Named Sole Deputy General Counsel
NEW YORK -- Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC) announced today that James J. McNasby, a senior attorney for Kraft North America, has been named general counsel of Marsh Inc., MMC's insurance brokerage and risk advisory subsidiary.
Mr. McNasby, 38, joins the company today, reporting to Peter J. Beshar, executive vice president and general counsel of MMC. Mr. McNasby succeeds Richard J. Sullivan, who was appointed a judge on the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York earlier this year.
Mr. Beshar commented, "Jim's broad experience in litigation, M&A, government affairs, communications and compliance, both in the United States and abroad, should serve him well as General Counsel of the Marsh global legal department and a member of the Marsh senior management team."
Mr. McNasby was most recently senior vice president of North America Legal for Kraft Foods, the chief lawyer for Kraft's $22.5 billion North American business. He previously held positions with Kraft in London, including vice president of Corporate and Government Affairs and vice president and chief counsel of Kraft Foods Western Europe. Prior to Kraft's spin-off from Altria, Mr. McNasby held a number of positions in Altria's legal department in New York, Richmond, Virginia and Lausanne, Switzerland.
Mr. McNasby received his J.D. in 1994 from Harvard Law School and his B.A. in 1991 from the University of Virginia. After serving as a law clerk to the Honorable Ronald R. Lagueux, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court in the District of Rhode Island, he spent 3 years as a litigation associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell.
Additionally, MMC today announced the appointment of Lucy Fato, 41, as the sole deputy general counsel for MMC Legal. Ms. Fato and Mr. Sullivan had served as co-deputy general counsels of MMC prior to Mr. Sullivan's federal appointment. Ms. Fato also serves as corporate secretary for the MMC Board of Directors.
Prior to joining MMC, Ms. Fato was a partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell. She joined Davis Polk in 1991 and became a partner in the Corporate Department in 2000.
