Boeing Expands its Implementation of MapuSoft's OS Abstractor for the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems Program
Business Wire, Oct 1, 2007
MOBILE, Ala. -- Today MapuSoft Technologies (MT) announced that The Boeing Company, acting as the Lead Systems Integrator (LSI) for the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) program, has restructured its use of MapuSoft's OS Abstractor solution to be a system-wide development utilization in the current build of their System of Systems Common Operating Environment (SOSCOE) architecture. MapuSoft's OS Abstractor is also being adapted and validated to inter-operate across an additional operating system for this build. OS Abstractor provides SOSCOE an industry standard POSIX Application-Programming Interface (API) for software development and deployment of applications across multiple operating systems.
"MapuSoft's OS Abstractor product satisfied SOSCOE requirements for memory and thread management on two operating systems. After gaining experience with the product's capabilities and performance, Boeing, along with our Army customer, decided to license OS Abstractor on an additional operating system. Boeing also decided to purchase a system-wide subscription to provide improved developer accessibility. MapuSoft's customer service was also a factor in the decision for this product; MapuSoft has consistently demonstrated high responsiveness and excellent customer support," said John Krainski, SOSCOE's OS Abstraction Software Manager.
OS Abstractor APIs give users the ability to effectively develop code independent of the underlying OS to protect software investment and to easily expand support to multiple operating systems. It consists of BASIC and POSIX components. The BASIC component offers a standard OS interface architecture that is flexible and intuitive for application development. The POSIX component offers industry standard API compliance for new code development and/or re-use of existing POSIX code base across multiple OS platforms. OS Abstractor protects software investment by eliminating the risks associated with OS selection and/or use of proprietary API features. Because OS Abstractor allows developers to use a standard API interface across multiple OS platforms the costs and time associated with code maintenance and learning multiple operating systems are greatly reduced.
"MapuSoft is honored to continue our involvement with Boeing and the US Army's Future Combat Systems," said Raj Johnson, president and CEO of MapuSoft Technologies. "The integration of OS Abstractor and SOSCOE provides valuable OS independence to SOSCOE's applications."
In addition to OS Abstractor, MapuSoft also offers OS Changer and OS PAL products. OS Changer protects user's existing software investment and knowledge base by giving the ability to reuse legacy code on different operating systems. OS PAL (OS Porting & Abstraction Lab) leverages on existing OS Abstractor and OS Changer technologies and provides an Eclipse based IDE to easily port, abstract and optimize code on a host machine and run the application on different target OS platforms.
