Neuf Cegetel Selects Ericsson and Redback to Build Its Next Generation Fiber-to-the-Home Network
Business Wire, Oct 10, 2007
#1 Alternative Carrier in France Will Use Redback's SmartEdge Router Platform to Deliver Broadband, Phone, TV & Mobility Services
BERLIN -- Redback Networks Inc., an Ericsson company that makes video-centric routers for 75 percent of the world's largest triple-play networks, today announced it has been selected by Neuf Cegetel, the leading alternative telecom operator in France, to build its next generation fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) aggregation network for both residential and business services.
Neuf Cegetel is the largest alternative carrier in France serving more than three million broadband subscribers and 150,000 corporate sites. Neuf Cegetel's broadband network reaches more than 70% of France's 62 million people. Under the new deal, Redback and Ericsson will deploy and maintain Redback SmartEdge[R] 1200 multi-service edge routers to aggregate optical access nodes into a high speed, 10 Gbps metro Ethernet network.
"Building a nationwide fiber network across France will allow Neuf Cegetel to introduce a new set of high-bandwidth communications services for both consumers and businesses. Redback's SmartEdge 1200 multi-service edge routers are an ideal platform to manage data, voice, video and mobility services over fiber networks," said Pierre Alain Allemand, General Manager of the Network Division at Neuf Cegetel.
"This major contract demonstrates how Redback and Ericsson's combined expertise can drive their customers toward higher levels of technology excellence," said Guy Roussel, President of Ericsson France.
"Video and mobility are driving a new wave of network upgrades across France and Europe," said Magnus Almquist, Vice President, EMEA Sales and Operations, Redback Networks.
Redback manages more than 54 percent of all broadband subscribers in France. Sixteen of the top 20 telephone carriers worldwide already use the SmartEdge router platform to deliver a mix of broadband, phone and TV services to more than 63 million subscribers. Top wireline carriers deploying SmartEdge include AT&T, British Telecom, China Telecom, China Netcom, ChungHwa Telecom (Taiwan), eAccess (Japan), France Telecom, Korea Telecom, Telefonica, and Turk Telecom, among the more than 200 carriers worldwide.
