Mobile Music Deal Brings Additional Independent Tunes to Fans' Mobile Phones
NEW YORK -- Groove Mobile, the world's leading mobile music service provider, today announced at CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival a worldwide licensing deal with Redeye Distribution, a leading digital distributor dedicated to marketing and promoting independent media. The deal will increase Groove Mobile's catalog and provide independent labels and artists with instant access to the mobile phones of fans across the globe.
"Today's collaboration is an important step for independent artists seeking to leverage the power of mobile music services," said Jim Logrando, digital sales and marketing for Redeye Distribution. "Tracks from our influential catalog of music will be available to fans directly, allowing artists to expand their audiences with the Groove Mobile platform, reaching millions of music fans worldwide."
Redeye Distribution currently handles physical and digital sales of songs for more than 250 labels including Yep Roc, Arena Rock, Purple Feather, PR Records, TKO Records, Rainbow and Quartz. Major artists include The Donnas, Paul Weller, Nick Lowe, Martin Sexton, Anti Flag, Southern Culture on the Skids, John Doe and the Reverend Horton Heat.
"Redeye Distribution represents an extensive group of influential artists and prominent independent labels that mobile music fans are demanding to hear," said Adam Sexton, chief marketing officer for Groove Mobile. "At Groove Mobile, we have always been focused on the music, and this new agreement with Redeye will bring some of the leading independent artists to our wireless carrier partners around the world."
With 35 million transactions completed since launching the service in 2004, Groove Mobile has continued to strengthen its command of the marketplace through recent deals with Bell Canada, Vodafone, 3 UK, Universal Music Group and Sony BMG. A pioneer in the mobile music industry, Groove Mobile sold 400,000 audio singles in its first year alone and in July of this year enabled nearly three million downloads in a single month. In addition to this latest deal with Redeye, Groove Mobile also provides music fans access to the content of other leading independents including V2, The Orchard, Beggars Group, DRA, IRIS Distribution, INgrooves, GrooveSource, IODA, Artspage and Phonofile.

About Redeye Distribution
Founded in 1996 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Redeye Distribution has grown from a small regional supplier to an international distributor recognized eight times by the National Association of Record Merchandisers (NARM) as the Distributor of the Year (small division).
Redeye Distribution was built with the goal of providing the best possible service to our customers and our distributed labels (GSL, eenie meenie, Flameshovel, Friendly Fire) and artists (Public Enemy, Over the Rhine, The Donnas, Greg Brown, Lisa Loeb) offering a diverse but selective catalog of quality music and a knowledgeable, hard-working, friendly staff who are passionate about getting music into the marketplace.
And while the marketplace changes, Redeye changes with it, offering new services such as digital distribution, mobile distribution, direct-to-consumer fulfillment and licensing -- extending its services beyond traditional distribution to music retail.
Currently based in Haw River, NC with more than 55 employees, Redeye remains a true "indie" -- independently owned by our founders and not answering to any larger corporate entity or board.
