Motricity's eReader.com Launches Over-The-Air Delivery for eBook Consumers to Simplify eBook Delivery
Business Wire, Oct 24, 2007
DURHAM, N.C. -- Motricity announced that its eBook customers will be among the industry's first to be able to purchase and receive their eBooks delivered over-the-air directly to their mobile device. The company also announced that its eReader Pro for Windows Mobile technology will now be offered for free.
"We are taking innovative steps to raise consumer adoption of eBooks by simplifying the customer's experience," said Alex Bloom, general manager of Motricity's Smartphone operations. "Currently, eBook consumers have to buy the book, download it onto a PC, connect the mobile to the PC and transfer the data. We've already seen through our experience with games, ringtones and other content types that making transactions simpler and more immediate helps increase consumer adoption."
Consumers purchasing books compatible with the Windows Mobile operating system will be the first to experience the over-the-air(OTA) purchase and delivery of their favorite eBook titles directly to their mobile device. eBook consumers can also search for any eBooks and access their online bookshelf from their Windows Mobile handheld or Smartphone. Motricity is continuing to invest in its innovative eReader Technology and will support OTA delivery on additional operating systems in the near future.
Concurrently, Motricity announced that its eBook reader technology, eReader Pro for Windows Mobile will now be offered for free for a limited period of time--eReader Pro was previously sold for $9.95. The eReader Pro bundle allows customers to add bookmarks, adjust font and display features to enhance their reading experience, autoscroll, and use in the included reference books.
"Reading eBooks is a new event for most consumers and we want to ensure that they have an easy and pleasurable initial experience," said Bloom. "Over the years, we've seen that once someone tries an eBook, they are very likely to enjoy it and eBooks become part of their lifestyle while traveling, commuting and other on-the-go activities."
With almost half a million users and over 17,000 eBooks, eReader.com, a business unit of Motricity, is one of the world's largest eBook stores. Motricity delivers more than 600,000 digital media titles and applications direct to consumers for their mobile devices through some of the largest and most popular mobile content storefronts.
