Business Wire, Oct 30, 2007
New Board Officers Remain Committed to Healthcare Community and Financial Stability
BOSTON -- A leading provider of medical liability insurance in the Northeast has assigned new roles to three members of its Board of Directors. ProMutual Group is pleased to announce that Kenneth A. Heisler, M.D., F.A.C.S., Brenda E. Richardson, M.D., and Paul A. Schnitman, D.D.S., M.S.D., will be undertaking new positions as the chairman, vice chairwoman and secretary of the board of Medical Professional Mutual Insurance Company (ProMutual), a parent company of ProMutual Group. The members officially assumed their new roles after the company's board meeting on October 24, 2007. They will be leading a board composed by a majority of practicing or retired healthcare providers concerned with the needs of the healthcare community.
"We are pleased that Dr. Heisler will be taking on the role as chairman of the board and that Dr. Richardson and Dr. Schnitman will serve in their respective roles as vice chairwoman and secretary," said Richard W. Brewer, president and CEO for ProMutual Group. "We are looking forward to working together to maintain and build upon the progress of the past several years. Each board member offers a unique perspective and experience which has been an invaluable asset to the company and its policyholders."
Dr. Heisler began his career as a surgeon in Falmouth, Massachusetts, after graduating from Columbia University with his undergraduate and medical degrees. While still practicing as a surgeon, Dr. Heisler has held several leadership roles for ProMutual Group and most recently held the position of vice chairman. Dr. Heisler is a member of the American Medical Association, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of General Surgeons.
Supporting Dr. Heisler in his new role as chairman of the board are Dr. Richardson and Dr. Schnitman, who will serve as vice chairwoman and secretary, respectively. Dr. Richardson has a private practice specializing in clinical nutrition in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and is a member of several medical associations. Dr. Schnitman is the current director of The Boston Seminars in Implant Dentistry and also practices at Implant Dentistry in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts. Both have served on ProMutual Group's Board of Directors since 2002.
Dr. Heisler succeeds immediate past chairman of the board, Barry M. Manuel, M.D., F.A.C.S., who led the board for fifteen years. Overseeing the transformation of ProMutual Group from a joint underwriting association to a true physician mutual, Dr. Manuel provided leadership during an unprecedented period of growth and financial stability for ProMutual Group. Under his care, the company grew to more than 18,000 healthcare providers, expanded into seven additional states, maintained an A- (Excellent) A.M. Best rating for 11 consecutive years and became one of the top 10 medical liability insurance companies in the country. Dr. Manuel leaves ProMutual Group a strong and vibrant company well positioned to meet the challenges of protecting its physician, dentist and hospital policyholders for years to come.
With this new leadership, ProMutual Group sets its aim on maintaining the financial stability of the company and continuing to serve the healthcare community by providing excellent services and products. The company remains committed to protecting healthcare providers and positively influencing how medical errors are approached.
